Time Plan Keeping

As my design practice works with deadlines, I ensure I am very punctual. In achieving this, I create time management plans. I create monthly plans as well as weekly. I keep a diary to structure my weeks. In the week I have to prioritise my academic support sessions, which happen once a week. I also have photoshoots which I schedule into my week. I tend create photography on the side of my degree. In doing this, I tend to work in the mornings for shoots. The shoots will start at 9am and finish around lunch time. After that, I have the rest of my day for studies.

This is an example of my time management plan for the 603 module. This module consisted of a variety of projects. Therefore, I had to ensure each project was met for the deadline set. Some projects were competition briefs, therefore the project had to be completed. Other client work gave a specific time to complete a brief. This would tend to be a two week brief.

The colours help indicate different projects. This allowed me to see where I was for each brief. I would set myself targets for each week. This would be recorded through Lists in my sketchbook. I would also record this timetable in my diary where it shows my week. I would create a 'general' structure of my week in my weekly diary. For instance, Monday are for briefings, Fridays I would have my PP session and my academic session at 9am.

The images below are examples of my daily lists. This helps me figure out my design process. For instance the steps for initial ideas, which will then lead on to development which may lead onto further development. Depending on how big the project this may be days or weeks.

Overall, I find sketchbooks such a great thought process as I can structure briefs accordingly to where I am in the design process. I also create a neat timetable on my wall, this will consist of my roles weekly as well as for the overall term to show when my deadlines are. I have developed this skill from deadlines, as I want to achieve my goals before the deadline.
