On Beat Workshop

6A2

Society held in Leeds University

OnBeatzine

A zine for women of colour and minorities, a platform where they publish creative content. The purpose of this society is to create a community/network for women of colour in Leeds.

Onbeatzine instagram page, where they explore content which empowers women of colour. They explore topics such as woman wearing the scarf, as well as exploring Grime music. Onbeatzine also have a radio station where they play emerging artists which are of colour.

Onbeatzine create upcoming events. This event was for women of colour where they allowed students to express who they are through collage. The outcome was either a piece of collage or a zine. The purpose of this was to bring a whole community together. It was a huge turn out, where students were enable to express their insecurities and share similar issues which they have faced growing up in a Western society.

An outcome produced by a student. 'Let's push things forward' is a really powerful phrase which creates the idea of the fourth wave in feminism.

A collage which I created. This piece explores women of colour but also allow yourself to accept who you are as an individual. The idea of a mix of culture: East and West.

This workshop helped develop my practice further by gaining contacts, as well as bringing up racial issues which perhaps I was unaware of. This will be useful for racial content for future projects.
