RCA Fashion show

6A2

RCA Fashion show is an exhibition held by the Royal College of Art where they held work from Masters graduates.

The fashion show held many graphic content including branding such as, business card, brochures, and posters. The show had more of a hand-craft approach including many various techniques. The show also included Fashion illustrations.

The final work produced held fantastic presentation which will be useful for developing my practise further by producing research in a more interesting approach.

With this particular designer, colour helped create a more vibrant, youthful, bespoke approach. The concept explores shapes and pattern to convey a more quirky approach. The ideas are very outrageous and brave, perhaps this is missing within design as it is more of a risk.

Exploring how content is presented. The concept of research was separated onto a final scale which was presented in a folder style. This creates a more formal approach towards the designers work. The pastel colours conveys the theme of the 1960s. This idea of contrasted monochrome pictures creates a more vintage aesthetic.

I wanted to include this image into my research, as the theme was military, a continuous theme I have explored due to my heritage. The idea of using raw materials creates the idea of senses of touch through media. The concept really conveys the culture and theme which is trying to be portrayed.

The theme explored is more natural, exploring elements such as water and sand. This approach creates more of an elite finish towards the work. The concept creates more of a mature approach, really addressing the expense of the brand. It has more of an editorial finish, it is simple yet effective. The layout of type is centred however includes break however in a more structured manner.

The use of media being used in this research book is effective. For instance, the use of typewriting being placed onto masking tape. This perhaps could be used when creating future sketchbooks for projects.

The graphic design content is more cliche which include InDesign layouts which are more simplified. This includes folded brochures which explore a more centred layout, this perhaps is more suited for industry.

This design presentation was the most successful in my opinion. The layout of the silver texture created a more urban approach. The aspect of culture was explored which perhaps is not as identified within todays industry. The amount of work produced such as: posters, business card, sketchbook, relates to my practice. This could help develop my practice further by exploring culture however in this style format, as well as exploring culture within design.

The use of applying fabric creates a collected finish, this really highlights the designer as being highly innovative. The use of highlighting the colour yellow is used effectively. The use of using a strong colour across a monochrome colour scheme creates the idea of trend. This idea could be explored for future work.

The presentation of the wooden board highlights the theme of nudes which resembles the designer's brand. The use of the brochure being applied with different papers and different scale and sizes creates a uniqueness towards the brand. The use of the pages being different scales creates more insight towards the content addressing the theme of the brand.

The use of the bind is effective and quick. The use of clipping pages together could perhaps be a new approach towards work ethic. The use of columns is explored through repetition. This idea of repetition could be explored throughout my practice for future work. The use of density is applied, this technique is effective for emphasising meaning and perhaps power and strength of the word.

The use of the bind was effective by screwing the ages together. This could be effective by collecting individual research and then screwing all the content together- the concept of not having a structure but the use of the bind helps function this.

Contact sheets were explored, this was one of my improvements for Level 6. Photographs could be placed in a simple layout, this will make it easier when finding the best outcome.

Illustrations explored through and expressive nature. This relates to my practise of illustration being more expressive. This could be explored for future work by combining fashion illustration with Graphic content.

The concept explored by this designer was Mermaid-Only Land. The designer explains this concept of the process of finding who they are and what they are made of. The definition of the individual was the complete of the incomplete.

Exploring this concept through media and hand craft techniques. The use of tearing effect creates more emotion and meaning towards the piece. Perhaps I could develop this idea further through the issue of wellbeing.

The collage layout relates to my practise of my collection. To present this I could create collages in sketchbooks to act as mood boards.

Ceramics Exhibition

With this design the designer has used more of 3-D aesthetic to create visual communication. This design was created through wood and adapting the aesthetic of the media to create something more aesthetically pleasing. This design definitely establishes the designer's style of work.

The exhibition was useful to me as it definitely showed me how to present my work and to not be afraid to present my work in a craft format which I originally did. The design of work produced has become more digital, however I would like to adapt my drawings skills and sketchbook skills within my projects as my style is unique and different. I feel being a 'Graphic designer', I have explored digital tools which will prepare me for industry. However this exhibition definitely has explored risks, some designs were more successful than others. To develop my practise further and to make my style stand out, I will adapt my old style of using crafted media and combine those skills with my present skills I have produced.
