Evaluation on my Skills

6B2

Reflection on existing skills

have strong drawings skills and creating concepts. I use my strong drawing skills to create initial ideas and sketches of what I want to achieve. I understand Illustrator, and this software is my main programme for my practice. I need to develop my skills in Photoshop and Photography. In second year, I began to create my own photography pieces and collaborated with fashion photographers. To develop this skill further, I will use studios in the university to explore art direction. I will also investigate different lenses for my camera. I will also research into relevant photographers for specific projects. For instance, for the Tone it Down brief in module 603, I investigated the IVY PARK campaign, where portrait photography used.

I have researched into different lenses. The lenses I will try out is the Sigma 28mm and 35mm. This adds up to a 55mm lens. I will also test different camera settings, rather than using the automatic setting. I find manual very challenging. I have researched into understanding the controls of the aperture, and ensuring I understand what the numbers stand for in the settings. I feel I have progressed in this; I need to develop this skill further. I have used the creative auto; this setting allows the background to blur and is specific for fashion photography.

For my practice to develop graphically, I need to research and use different typefaces which are appropriate and relevant for different projects. In my past projects I would tend to stick to a Univers typeface as this is more contemporary. However, I need to explore serif, and decorative typefaces. I also need to research into diverse typeface to fit to my practice. An example of this is the balboa typeface which I used for an emerging artist branding brief. This typeface was used in the civil rights movement; the typeface supports diversity. I also worked on a project on sustainable fashion, therefore I ensured the typefaces were sustainable. The typefaces used were Garamond and Century Gothic.

I will also develop my skills in designing branding and logos. As this is a main component between the link of fashion and graphic design. This will allow me to incorporate my innovative, expressive style taken from my illustrative strengths. I will also incorporate my illustrations, as this was my feedback to incorporate my illustrations in my designs. I will achieve this by illustrator. I will create thumbnail sketches and apply this on Illustrator. I will then trace over with a drawing pad.

I will also take extra time in developing my outcomes, as I would tend to struggle in refining my designs. Prototypes will be created and I will explore different printing methods, such as on clothing. I will ensure I have enough time to present my work by photography. This could be through studio photography or scanning. This will help develop my social media and portfolio further.
