Final Evaluation for 603 module

6B2

Final Evaluation

The most positive aspect of this module is the opportunity to work on a variety of different projects, in a number of capacities. The first projects, Tell a lie and Black History Monthposters allowed me to improve my skill in using Photoshop. I started using Photoshop more, using different tools such as the magic wand tool which I feel confident in using now.

For the Alone Together and Tone it down brief, I found these two briefs more challenging as they were very time consuming. Reflections by using time management plans allowed me to be more punctual with other briefs. I found the issue with these briefs where they were very reliant on research. However, as we had more time for this module, this allowed me to develop these projects further, as I would tend to run out of time in past research led projects. This helped me develop as a graphic designer, in exploring typefaces which are appropriate for different designs rather than using one typeface for every project.

A new skill which I have gained is photography. I have allowed myself to create my own primary photography. My skills have developed as a photographer by research and past fashion photography collaborative briefs, where I have learnt new skills from these students. I have improved my photography by the use of advancing lenses for my camera. I have gained a new skill and hobby which helps me record fashion content. This content has allowed me to create new, exciting projects which are more personal towards my practice and which I am more interested in.

One of the main challenges is working with clients. I find working with clients challenging because they tend to be specific with design and want further development in a short amount of time. The client base work from the project “Ecocentric” was a fantastic opportunity to develop my portfolio investigating the link between fashion and graphic design. It also allowed me to develop my skill in team work with working with other creatives. This project was very reliant on time management, I designed 70 pages in less than a week. This has helped me work quickly, which will prepare me to work in the industry with strict, short deadlines.

Academically I have improved by attending support sessions. This has allowed me to manage my time better and reflect my work by blog posts regularly. In the past I have struggled in reflecting my work and recording this process. I feel this module has allowed me to reflect on my work, and has given me enough time to be able to write down the development process for projects.

Overall, the briefs have allowed me to investigate theories which relate to my practice. For instance, Cultural Appropriation and Critical Race Theory. This has made the projects more personal to me, which I feel I have developed into a designer reflecting my own identity. I also have investigated the link between fashion and graphic design. I personally feel this is through the use of branding and logo designs. The projects have allowed me to use photography, which I feel I will be interested in art direction in the future. This module has also allowed me to create a portfolio for jobs in the field of fashion editorial design. I feel this is a path which interests me and would like to pursue.
